Quiet Kobe

"All I need is one shot to go down and I'm hot."

Kobe Bryant after scoring a quiet 22 points in playoff loss to Steve Nash and the Suns.

Go Nashie!

    hey boys,

this is it for the purple and yellow. when a "fired" player from the bulls, t. thomas, beats you up and scores at will, that's it. sorry t. kobe can start booking flights for colorado...he probably has frequent flyer points.

    Boys:

I'm in Toronto right now - so can't really talk - but I will leave you with this. Lakers in 7.

And for those of you that doubt it - you're the same ones that said the Lakers would not make the playoffs....

Unfortunately coming from Mr. 'Lakers WILL win 50'. However you've gotta believe.

I think Vince's mind game comment was a bit harsh off Kobe having one sub par game where his teamates actually stepped up, but sorry Rence, I can't endorse Lakers getting in the second round.

    Yes.

Watching the Kings/Spurs game two nights ago was like a picture into what Mike Bibby must imagine hell to be like. I like the guy and think he can play, but man did he play terrible. Terrible D, poor shooting,
poor decisions on O, and KBL type mistakes.

I'll stick by the Suns and either gloat or eat crow when someone wins 4. I completely missed the game last night.

    Jude,

Yes, I saw the Kings game the other night as well and what a break down. Gotta hand it to San Ant. They have the killer instinct and know how
    to win.

T, as far as last night goes ........Shawn Marion will not have another game like last night. I told Vince 2-3 weeks ago that Phoenix was ripe for an upset. Like Jude, I will stick with Phoenix, as these things even out over a 7 game series. Give Kobe his due. If he played all season
like he did last night, I might even respect his game. The dude orchestrated a perfect plan. Now can he do that in Game 3?

  7. T, J, and R:

Bibby was atrocious, but I loved Sharif's aggressiveness. Dude was taking to right to Duncan (5 fouls) and almost won the game at the buzzer in regulation. Alas, we always knew he had a suspect shot from mid-range.

I caught the whole game last night. I have to admit that the Lakers a whole lot better than the game I caught back in December. Zenmaster is a genius, getting his superstar to buy into the program. You can see Kwame's confidence building each game, and I think that with this playoff experience and a summer of hard work, he's going to be a monster in September. Odom is the key to the game, as he can pass, drive, and shoot threes. Marion is getting totally frustrated guarding Odom and you can see all his energy is spent on D.

Lakers D is also a whole lot better, as they are right in the mugs of Phoenix shooters. However, Suns were strangely flat with the exception of Nashie, so you can expect D'Antoni to make adjustments for Friday night with a lot more cutting action and cross screens. They have to attack Walton and Vukovic (sp?).

Watching the game reminds me of Triple Threat versus Money. All we want to do is run and shoot threes, all they do is take hard fouls, walk it up, and pound it inside.

I am still Suns in seven. Awesome series to watch.

PS: Kobe unleashed a ferocious posterization of Nash in Q4. However, it was clearly a charge.

    Gents:

    Some background for you...

I was in Toronto for work the whole week - but I had both games on the PVR. Got home at 12:30am last night and stayed up till 4am studying game film - not an effort when the Lakers are involved.

After watching both games back to back - here is my thinking. You guys are on crack.

The Lakers clearly outplayed the suns for 9 out of 10 quarters (the Suns won the last 10 min of the first game) - and keep in mind that this was in Phoenix!!. Having said that the Lakers are playing their best basketball of the season (Phil is a master at getting his teams to peak) and the D is absolutely punishing. Realistically if Kobe plays like he is expected to in the 4th Q of game 1 the Lakers are up 2-0 coming into the Staples Center.

The Lakers are 13-4 (?) at home during the last stretch of the season - and will put a beating on Phoenix for the next 2 games. Mark my words - by Monday morning the Lakers will be up 3-1 and looking to close it out in Phoenix.

    Some comments on the Suns.

Nash is the only one that is playing at a playoff level. And he can only do this for short spurts. Watch him, he is tugging on his shorts more often than ever and is being abused on D. Marion will not come alive in this series (sorry Jude) because Lamar is pounding the shit out of him on the block. Diaw is a pussy. Tim Thomas and Brian Grant are being humped by Kwame in the post. Raja Bell is the only one that plays with any agression, and he has his hands full with Kobe. Finally, D'Antoni is being severely out coached by the Master.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Suns and would be cheering for them if they we'rent playing the Lakers - but they are ripe for the picking in this series - and the Lakers are dialed in on the game plan. The big test is if they will be mature enough to stick to it for the next 3 games to close it out. I think they will.

I don't think the Lakers are good enough to advance past the following round (likely against the Clippers) - but they are rebuilding the franchise (remember all the talk about them sucking after trading Shaq? - that was one season ago!!) before our very eyes.

Remove your Laker hatred and you will agree with every point I have made.

kobe played well and in control. lamar is big...shit the whole lakers outweigh the suns by a lot. however, despite the shit play of the suns they still made a run. the lakers, last night played thre best possible game they could have played. the suns played the worst they could play. sorry t, if marion just hit a few shots, the series would be 2-0 suns.

hard to fault kobe...i'll give him props t.

    T,

Much like a bad hangover, I knew this one was coming. I just thought it
may not come until Monday instead of Friday night. It is half way
through the 3rd quarter on Sunday and the Suns have a 4 pt. lead.

I can't say much about the win the other night. Kobe toned it down,
everyone else stepped up and Phil is justifying his outrageous contract.
Phoenix is looking like it doesn't have the answers. Marion is not
going after balls like he used to and I am wondering if their fast break
got lost in Compton?? Time will tell.

I got nuthin' right now. I'll chime in at the end of the game.

    Game 4: Lakers 99 Suns 98
    Series: Lakers 3 Suns 1

Obviously I didn't catch the game (all they care about over here is World Cup!) but this will be the 4th straight game the Laker D has held the NBAs highest scoring team to under 100 points.

The Lakers are much better than ya'll give them credit for - see through the hatred and you'll know what I mean. But reality check here, they face the Clippers in round 2 (the Suns series is over) - and it will be a tough test. The Clppers are just as good if not a bit better than the Lakers. If we can target our D again, we might squeak out a 7th game win (at Staples center will help).

Thats as far as this Laker team will go (reality prevails over love of the team) - but watch out for this team next year. They have 5-6 million to play with in bringing in another big body or smart guard - plus Kwame, Lamar, and Kobe will have another year to gel.

  15. We had our final K-League regular season run with score keeping at 1pm and game at 2pm, so I taped Game 4. Incidentally, we took out team Sweet 128-116 to finish in second place.

I was going to watch the game, but then highlights came on and I saw Kobe's two shots. Forget about watching the tape.

To Nashie's credit, he didn't whine at the press conference afterwards. Anyone else would have been bitching left and right about ref conspiracy. Look at what the Wizards had to say about Lebron.

T, I will take my crow well done. That said, I think Suns will bounce back in game 5 before losing in game 6. Can't wait for the Clippers which I caught on Saturday night - I love Brand's game and he is going to take apart Brown and Odom.

    T,

My cursing after Game 4 could probably be heard straight across the pond. I'm not going to bring up the fact that Nash was calling a time out when the referee did his best impersonation of Helen Keller. Kobe hit an amazing shot to send it into OT and then to take the win.

I got nothing. Lakers got the win and for now I will remain silent. 'Nuff said.

Once again, I missed the game. My life is all about baby things now and they are not near a TV.

My first reaction was @##$$ ref's but then I remembered that Kobe got the blown call during the critical play at the end of game one when he got hit in the face, ending any chance of a Laker comeback. These things really do even out in the long run although it always seems worse when your team is down.

I once had crows foot soup in China. It was probably the most disgusting thing I ever ate. I'm not looking forward to it again.
